YAKA Packing & Sorting was founded in 2017 with the aim of bringing the high-quality cherries of the Yaka region to international markets. The company operates near Komotini, in the region of EasternMacedonia and Thrace, Greece.Since its establishment, YAKA has become an important fresh fruit platform connecting regionalagriculture with global markets through modern facility investments, high-technology sorting systems,strong grower relations and international quality standards.YAKA is not only a packing and export company. YAKA operates on a 3-hectare site in the Komotini region with approximately 2,100 m² of production and cooling facilities. The facility is positioned among modern cherry & berry packing operations and supports receiving, hydrocooling, optical calibration, final screening, packing and cold-chain logistics.

Early harvest advantage shaped by mountain climate.

The Yaka region is located at the foothills of the Rhodope Mountains, northwest of Komotini, Greece. Its long cherry-growing history, cool nights, warm summer days and carefully chosen varieties create firm, sweet and delicate fruit.

  • Cherry cultivation in the region is described with a heritage of more than 100 years.
  • The microclimate supports one of Greece’s earliest cherry harvests, beginning in early May and continuing until mid-July.
  • Legacy varieties include Burlat, Early Lory, Early Bigi, Samba, Sabrina, Lapins, Skeena, Z900, Ferrovia, Regina and Kordia.
  • The company name reflects the region’s strategic location at the center of this cherry blooming area.

The cherry processing phase at YAKA is operated through a cutting-edge optic calibrator. Fruit is moved by lots; each cherry is scanned, photographed and separated according to size, color and defect level before educated staff perform the final screening.

The technological innovation highlighted by YAKA is infrared detection, which helps identify even internal fruit defects.
